Mental Wellness Training

This training is designed to help first responders understand the importance of mental wellness. Topics include trauma, crisis response, PTSD, supports available, creating a culture that prioritizes members' mental wellness, and much more. Intended audience: any first responder or department regardless of length of time in the field

After Crisis Support

This service is designed to provide support to first responders following a critical incident, suicide, or any other type of incident that could cause stress, trauma, or mental anguish to members. It can be on an individual basis or as a group/department.

First Responder Family Support

This service is designed to help create a supportive environment to the families of first responders. Our goal is to assist families understand the impact of having a family member who is a first responder. Intended audience: family members and anyone who provides support to first responders

Individualized Mental Wellness Plan for your Department

This service provides departmental assistance in creating an individualized department plan that supports mental wellness and helps create a culture that makes this a priority.

New First Responder Mental Wellness Training

This service provides insight and education for new first responders. Topics included focus on educating new first responders on the trauma, stress, PTSD and other mental health concerns that they could face in this line of work. It also goes over sign/symptoms to be on the lookout for. Intended audience: prospective first responders, new recruits and probationary first responders. 

Mental Wellness Refresher Training

This course provides departments with a refresher on mental wellness, signs/symptoms of mental health issues, and conversations about trauma and stress that first responders are experiencing. Intended audience: Departments that would benefit from having updated training and engaging in conversations around mental wellness.

Please note: First responders can include firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, dispatchers, doctors and any other professions that are on the front lines.

About Us

Maria Westbrook, LCSW, CISM

Maria has over 13 years of mental health experience. She is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of New York. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings and has taken trainings on a multitude of topics. She is certified in Crisis Incident Stress Managment and trauma focused therapy. She has been a firefighter for 8 years and has held the rank of lieutenant, captain, and is currently the Assistant Chief of Rexford Fire Department. She is also a NYS Certified EMT. She is passionate about first responder mental wellness and providing the necessary tools to prepare first responders for the mental challenges they will face throughout their time as a first responder.

Amelia Mindel

Amelia has spent the past 20-plus years working in the local and state government with law enforcement, child protection, medical and other disciplines on their response to fatalities and significant incidents. Amelia works with organizations on their safety culture and trauma response. Her mission in life is to support others in the helping professions. As the spouse of a first responder, Amelia is well versed in the complexities that first responders face.
